Sigh.
Romeo and Juliet.*
My English class has been reading it for a few months now. It must be some coming of age thing, reading Romeo and Juliet in high school.. Just Kidding. I don't mind it at all, Shakespeares a genious, and I don't care what people say, but I actually think he did write all of his plays. He's a pretty cool dude.
So in class, we are seperated into groups, and each of us will preform a scene from Romeo and Juliet. Our group is working on the scene where the Capulet's realize that Juliet is "dead."** My friend has all these old ball gowns that we are using for some of the costumes. And I think our scene is going to come out pretty swankified...
The past few classes we have spent in the Auditorium at our school. Not actually on the stage yet, but we disperse oursleves around the room, while pretending to kiss, kill, and scream bloody murder. Yes. Shakespearian Tragedies are a loverly thing.
On Wednesday, we brought in some costumes. The two ball gowns are for Dead Juliet and Lady Cap. Juliet's is this mint green, with almost a blue undertone, while Lady Capulet has a poofy pink dress. Her own train and everything. Spiffy. The Nurse has a long green medival-esque dress, that my mom bought for about $10 at some Post-Halloween sale a few years ago. Glad to know it has some use other than keeping the attic floor company. One of my friends, who is playing Mercutio in another group, agreed to be our Dead Juliet. But on Wednesday, she was preoccupied with fighting Tybalt, so we were Dead Juliet-less. We used my friend's backpack as a replacement. Then, our English teacher asked if he could watch our group practice for a little while. Nursey and Lady Cap got into their dresses, and we started our scene. I wore Juliet's dress, just because. Although, our teacher gave me a funny look when I came out. I'm Lord Capulet***.
Papa Cap is just showing his sensitive side.

*Or RoMEOW and Juliet, as one of my friends says..
**"I'm not dead yet!" Wow. I need to get out more.
***Girls playing Boys. As apposed to in Shakespeares time, when the Boys played the role of Girls..
